COPIES OF LETTERS written by SIR DONALD MACLEAN K.C.M.G. New Plymouth Taranaki 27th. April 1846. Sir, I do myself the honour to inform you that His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor has, through the Superintendent of the Southern Division, offered me the appointment of Inspector of Police for the New Plymouth District, by letter bearing date 18th. April The appointment to commence from the date that I would join Mr. Symonds to assist him in settling the Land Question at Wanganui. I now beg leave to inform you that I have accepted that appointment, and will proceed to-motrow the 28th. inst. by the Government Brig ''Victoria'' for Wanganui. I have the honour to remain Sir, Your obedient servant (Signed) Donald McLean. To The Hon. the Col. Secretary.
