Ko Mei 11, 1851 No Turanga E hoa, e Te Makarini, Tena ra koe. Kia rongo mai koe ki taku mahi. E rua nga tamariki e awe [awhe?] kaihe. No te hokinga mai, ka tahaetia nga moni a Mare, e ono nga karauna. No konei ahau i whakaae atu ki ta raua tikanga. Kaore e utua taku kainga. E ta, ka pai ranei ki au. Na, ko taku, me pana atu ki te moana. Na Raharuhi Rukupo 11 May 1851 From Turanga Friend, McLean, Greetings. Listen to what I've been doing. There were two young half-castes [?]. On my return Mare's money was stolen [by them], six crowns. I sought to ask for repayment but it was not given to me. One crown I have, but the two crowns Hata had were not given to me. Mare himself decided that I should take it for myself but it wasn't given to me. Sir, those thieves are at Hata's house. Sir, should I [?] pay Hata? Sir, don't let a thief into your house. Hata does not agree to my theft. And so it stays. What I said to Hata was, 'Sir, that man's crime clings to you. Now, you set right my work [otherwise?] I will call for the court [?].' That's the end of it. Now, sir, there is this to say to you. My place at Tame's house, they organised to pay me, to lease it, so they are not there illegally, should the Governor come to throw them off. So I agreed with their plan. Sir, you have the right to say to them not to pay. Now, clarify your reply to me. My land will not be bought. Sir, if you agree with me, then my idea is to drive them into the sea.
