Dear Sir, I have recd. a note from the Revd.Mr.Buddle, in wh. he says that he had had an interview with Govr.Browne, and that His Excelly. blamed me on 2 points, as havg. acted improperly, and that 1st. As to my callg. up the wh. was never once dreamt of, and 2ndly Abt. laying the information "with a view of havg. K. arrested", wh. is the very opposite of what I wrote to the Rest. Magistrate. As to what I have and , I seek for no other justification than what is contained in the printed Journal. I don't fall back on "" (for in cases of this sort they are useless or mischievous, frequently), but I plead good and good - and the entire success of the whole corroborates the plea. At any rate, I have acted throughout in such a manner, that I claim to be treated by the Gov. with proper courtesy as I always hitherto have been, and not to have messages sent to me through third parties, as has been now done on two occasions, as if I were unworthy of beind addressed in a more direct manner. I may be so unworthy, but I think this is hardly the fittest time to tell me so. By the measures wh. I adopted, I have saved the Colony an enormous outlay both of blood and treasure, wh. must eventually have been required, had the game been allowed further to proceed: but havg. acted altogether from a sense of Missy. duty, without reference to any party, it matters but little to me to find my only reward externally, in the ingratitude of the Govt. Had I been a "Bishop" it might have been different. But perhaps it is quite as well that it shd. be so, as it will effectually secure me in a position of independence, in reference to the future consideration of this questn. If therefore, I have not the pleasure of waiting on the new Governor, you will understand from this, what deprives me of it.
