Ahuahu, 19 April, 1847. My Dr.Sir, I am many letters in your debt and may as well at once declare my inability to pay - request you to forgive all and rub all off and allow me to go on again. I hope therefore to receive your favoursas freely and as abundantly as ever. Your letter of 16 March hopes I shall give you a particular account of my journey to Taupo - but at this time I can only say that I found the people and the lake and the Horo i ngaro ai a te Heuheu ma - I found also Iwikau just come back from Wanganui on a peaceable visit - well disposed - and after spending a few days with them I hurried along the Kaingaroa and got home in three days - three days from Taupo to Ahuahu I call rather quickish like travelling. I left your - our old friend Raniera there among his own people at Rotoaira You remember old Raniera who was almost perished at Urenui when you and I went to Taranaki. I am sorry to hear that two Ngatiruanui natives have since been murdered there but hope the rumour may prove false. All your letters I duly posted - The one for Dr. Perry of Glasgow with the rest. I paid the postage of it 2/- also the postage of the one by the last Mail and those by the former mail. I think you owe me a trifle besides what you sent by Hone. You have now a difficult piece of business before you I wish I could help you but fear the health or rather illness of Mrs.W. will allow me to think of leaving home again at present. I saw the Governor at Auckland but my stay was short He said he would instruct you to do what you could to get the Mission land arranged to our satisfaction as requested by Mr.Turton I wish the natives would yield to the advice of their best friends but we must exercise patience and pray that God would turn about their hearts. Please give my best respects to your Brother Magistrate Mr.Flight and also to Capt.King. Yours truly, J.Whiteley.
