Wanganui June 12, 1861. My dear Mr. Maclean, I have been patiently waiting for a line from you, but I suppose yr time is too much occupied to think of Wanganui, so I might remind you of it, and first Hare Tipene has been here about the completion of the purchase of the Waitotara block, this of course will be at once attended to - it is of the utmost importance and be one grand means of detaching Hare Tipene and his hapu from the Ngatiruanui confederation. Next, Mr. Porter has spoken to me about the payment of the £50 for John Williams section No.3 line, you authorized Major Durie to pay for it, but he did not do so, as you gave him no written authority. I trust you will not forget to do so as several Europeans are anxious to obtain the section. Next. The General Hospital wants another trustee. I recommend the Governor to appoint the Colonial surgeon for the time being to that office. It is due to him and by so doing it will save any future appointment, if that officer holds it in virtue of his situation. George King wants to pay Auckland a visit in the spring and shld. a passage be given him I shd. like to accompany him is there any prospect of your payiig us a visit? it would have a good effect. we hear that the new genl. will carry war into Waikato in the spring he must have a larger force than he has at present to enter a country without roads and food, and where the enemy will naturally retire to the most inaccessible part. Believe me ever yours truly, Richd. Taylor.
