Coromandel July 23 1863 My very dear Sir I am sorry that I had not more time when I saw you as I wanted a little more conversation with you I trust that you spoke to Mr Bell in my favour as there is now two vacancies here Mr Turton has resigned and also Turner the sub commissioned I have this day wrote to Mr. Bell on the subject the Natives wish very much to have me to arrainge all matters between them and the Government also between them and the white people difficulties are fast increasing I think that I could keep all right yesterday I settled a matter that has been pending for months past which Mr Turton could not arrainge to day I shall be fully employed I should be thankful if you would write to the Government in my favour on the receipt of this I trust that you find your new position all that you expect it to be please to excuse haste and will write more fully soon Yours very truly James Preece Donald McLean Esq.
