Feby. 13, 1867 I learnt this mg. that Mr. Colenso has placed a letter in Mr. Curling's hands directing him to read it - if he should be proposed for Election - stating that he will not permit himself to be returned for the Town of Napier - or elsewhere. Capt. Buchanan is canvassing for the Town. Mr. France at the Coote Road has left his wife - in a fit I hear of jealousy - Capt. Buchanan has been residing there a long time - immediately after France left Buchanan took up the case of Mrs. France - thereby adding more scandal to the whole transaction. I enclose a slight report that I sent Mr. Wood - not being able to do so inside - I only took notes outside of the open window - for that reason they were not complete by a long way.
