Tauranga 15th Novr. 1870 My dear Sir, I have not heard anything further about Aporo and party. Tahau and party with women and children are fishing at Kati Kati. He wrote today to Mr. Hopkins Clarke to the effect, that he is quietly fishing at Kati Kati, and that he approves of Aporo and followers being turned back. This is rather cool of Tahau whose letter will not be answered but who will not be molested. He says that he has been living peacefully at Ohineroa since getting away from Te Kooti. Mr. Grace in staying with me having arrived overland from Auckland via Ohinemuri. He informs me that he has lately been to Mata Mata and round Waikato and that all the natives say that God will visit the Maories in the third month of the coming year and that peace will follow throughout the Island" and Mr. Grace thinks that the King is working to that end. Mr. Grace tells me that he is the bearer of a letter from Tahau to Pohipi of Taupo. The pay for Sept. and October having arrived I hope to start for Opotiki tomorrow. I leave for Auckland on 29 Inst to give evidence against Sub Storekeeper Carne for embezzling public monies. Everything extremely quiet in the District, but I suppose the coming elections will unsettle people for a time. I remain my dear Sir, Yours very truly, W. Moule The Hon. D. McLean, Native & Defence Minister, WELLINGTON. P. S. The Ohinemuri were very kindly disposed to Mr. Grace and talked of God visiting them in third month of 1871. W. M.
