Letter from Donald McLean to the Honble, the Colonial Secretary, dated 14th. May 1850. relative to the 2nd, instalment of Rangitikei purchase. Whanganui May 14th. 1850. Sir, I have the honor to request that you will submit to His Excellency, the Lieut. Governor, that it will be desirable to receive at Whanganui, with as little delay as possible, the Second Instalment of £500; which falls due for the Rangitikei purchase, on the 15th. inst. I would, at the same time, request that this sum should, if convenient, be furnished to me in bags, each containing £5 in silver, as this would greatly facilitate the distribution of the amount to the different claimants. It may be necessary that the receipts of the natives for this, and the succeeding payments, should be endorsed, or attached to the original Deed; which, if sent to me, I shall afterwards carefully return either to your own or the Registrar General's Office, at Wellington, where I believe it is at present deposited. I have the honor to be Sir, Your most obedient servant (Signed) Donald McLean Land Commissioner To:- The Hon. The Col. Sec. Memo. I think it would be advisable to defer payment of any further instalments until that may give rise to future difficulties, respecting boundaries, be definitely arranged. From Mr. McLean's other letter, it appears that this may be accomplished in a very short time. (Signed) A. Domett.
