Wallingford Novr. 13th 1867 My dear McLean, I wrote you a good long letter by Cobb's coach on Tuesday so have not much to say tonight. Two mail nights a week are one too many. I should not write tonight but that I see Haultain is to be at Napier on the 15th. Will you kindly ask him what can be done for my brother. I did not trouble him whilst I was at Wellington because he was I thought so ill that the less he was bothered the better. My brothers case is simply that his wound unfits him for any active employment. I fancy he would like employment in an office if the Govt. could find anything for him. At any rate I shall be much obliged if you will mention about him to Haultain and see what he says. We had a little rain yesterday and today for a wonder we had no wind. Weber is to be back here tomorrow on his way back from Akitio. I have nothing else to write about. Yours always, J. D. Ormond Paul Ropeha wants you to buy one half of the Bush reserve Eprioma there is about 1000 acres of it and I think he wants to sell half - he asks £1 an acre but wd. probably take a good deal less. It wd. sell again I think pretty well as what is offered for sale is accessable whilst what the Govt. now holds is not. I was to have written about it last week but forgot. He has just been to hear what your reply is - You had better write an answer to him direct saying whether you will entertain his offer or not. J. D. O.
