Auckland Novr. 1/45 My Dear Sir I have received your letter with the box of shells and bottle containing the vegetable caterpillars for which I return you many thanks. You will hear that the Governor has been recalled and as I intend to Resign on the arrival of the new one and return to Glasgow I shall be glad to take anything there for you and to call on any of your friends whom you would like I should see. It will be two or more months before I go so that if you choose to send by the Brig letters and anything else they will be able to reach me in sufficient time. I am quite tired of the confinement of the office and the many unpleasant duties attendant on it, and shall be glad to resume my old employment in the Navy f I can get nothing better. It is very likely I shall be out here again in about a year hence as I have not accomplished what brought me out last and being anxious to return to England with the Governor's family I cannot have time to do it now. My chief object was to make excursions to the interior of the country and as I can both readily and profitably make another voyage out to do so you may expect to see me at least within two years. I shall then be glad to accompany you on some of your long journeys and have the benefit of your knowledge of the country and intimate acquaintance with the native language. Perhaps you may be able to visit this neighbourhood before we go as you mentioned in your last letter. It is quite uncertain yet when the new Governor may arrive and when we may be able to leave, but I do not think either events will occur before January next. I remain, Yours truly A. Sinclair
