Kelham, acting for Principal Agent of New Zealand Company. to the Honble, the Colonial Secretary, stating that he has no other means of making payment of Rangitikei Instalment, than by the Bill paid to Treasurer. dated 23rd. May 1850. New Zealand Company's Office Wellington. 23rd. May 1850. Sir, I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of yesterday, acquainting me that the Lieut. Governor, having stated his inability to direct the Colonial Treasurer to endorse the draft £515.9.3 on the New Zealand Company, forwarded by me to him, for the purpose of paying the Second Instalment upon the Rangitikei purchase; and further requested you to apply to me to provide Specie for the payment. In reply, I beg to refer you to the Principal Agent's letter to you, of the 1st. inst. in reference to the mode of payment for the 4th. instalment upon the Wairau purchase; which was the same as that which I have now tendered to the Colontal Treasurer, for the Rangitikei, and to add that I have no other means of meeting the payment in question.
