McLean Wellington Sept. 22. 1868 Paora Toki and 50 men have joined the ex-prisoners also the whole of the Ureweras portion of Wairoa natives Te Wharu amongst the rest portion of Turanga, Ngatiporou, Whakatohea and Ngatiatoa. Wirehana with 50 men gone to have an interview with the ex-prisoners to put a stop to fighting if possible but the result is exceedingly doubtful. Hikiroa Wi Maiaia's brother has joined the Hau Haus and told them that Paora was giving information to the Government. Paora says his life is in danger in consequence. A number of natives have left Waioeka and Pahwhakiroa within the last 2 days and are now on Duncan's run Tongohio, the confiscated block planting potatoes. (Signed) Joseph Rhodes.
