Wanganui June 6, 1846 My Dear Sir, As the negociation for the purchase of this district has been abruptly terminated by the sudden and unexpected departure of T. Symonds Esqre. at the very time when the natives expected the question would have been settled it appears to me highly expedient that you should prolong your stay in this place at least until Monday, to allay any excitement which might arise from the circumstance of the natives being thus left without Mr. Symonds having informed them of his unexpected intention. With the expression of the regard I entertain towards you for the uniform attention you have paid to the object for which you visited our district I remain, My Dear Sir Most faithfully yrs Richd. Taylor D. Maclean Esqre.
