Shag Valley 25 Novr 1875 My dear McLean, I enclose you a note I have received about the formation of a Volunteer Rifle Corps. Will you kindly tell me whether you think the offer is one that you may properly accept? I am hoping soon to hear from you about the letter I lately wrote you on election matters. If I do not stand it is certain that a provincial partison will be brought forward against George McLean, and I believe he would get in. I need hardly say that if the contest is to lie only between G. McL. and me I hope to have your help, especially with the natives who are on the roll. Believe me always Faithfully yours F.D. BELL Hon. Sir Donald McLean K.C.M.G. P.S. Accept the Volunteer offer if you properly can, as it will help my return.
