Auckland, 25 Nov., 1848. My Dear Sir, I wrote you hurriedly by the return Messenger who brought us accounts of the Earth quake at Wellington. Last week we had a Session of the Legislative Council, several Marriages and the Knighting of the Governor in Chief. On Tuesday he sailed for Wellington in H. M. S. Havannah. He will probably return soon in H. M. S. Fly, after which I expect he will pay you a visit with Lady Grey and stay some time at Taranaki. It is intended to send the "Victoria" to Wellington in about a fortnight, and she will then take arms etc. for your men as well as other stores for New Plymouth. She is to go there after touching at Wellington. We are all going on quietly here and I have no further news to communicate to you, and have no time to write to Capt.King. I remain, Yours truly, A.
