Gillies is very nasty about native matters - if he were entrusted with native matters he would soon get up a little war - Mr.Vogel says that he has been writing some very pungent minutes on Thames Gold Field Matters on question raised by Puckey - Puckey is right and ought to be supported - Still we do not want to irritate the Provincial Authorities - but there is not a question that they are very hostile to the Native Department - Will you urge on several matters which must have been before you relative to matters in these Districts - One matter is personal to myself. Moule - I do not see why we should allow an officer who will be very useful to us to kill himself - I do not see my way clearly about Mair - He is too useful to us in the Bay of Plenty - Hamlin cannot do the work of both Districts.
