My dear Mr. McLean, Thank you much for yours of the 20th. ult., I know full well how much your time is occupied and that you have no time for private letters and I therefore esteem one from you very much. You have always been so very kind in acting so promptly on every occasion when I have asked your kind interest that it does not require a letter to tell me you do not forget me. I hope we will send you a Member who will be a good supporter of the Ministry. Major Jackson is I think certain of being returned indeed I do not think anyone will stand against him altho' several have been spoken of. No one will have a chance against him and he promises a general support to the present ministry of which he holds a high opinion. I told him I would do everything in my power to help his cause if he was going in to support the Ministry and if he was not that I would oppose him in every way I could. Jackson's whole interest is in Waikato and he knows the present Ministry have done and will do what they can to help Waikato, and you may depend he will support it even if he had not promised to do so. I hear Mr. Ormond is coming up to Waikato and I must try to see him. I want to do so on the subject of the railway survey. I wish there was a chance of seeing you in these parts but I fancy you are too busy to take any but necessary trips.
