Manse of Glenorchy Novr 7th 1859 My dear brother You will excuse my not writing you a long letter at this time as I leave this tomorrow morning at 1/2 six which is sooner than I anticipated to embrace the opportunity of getting the comfort of a close carriage to Inverary distance of sixteen miles in company with a lady and gentleman from the hotel. My visit here has been a very pleasant one indeed. Many things have occurred to make it particularly so. The principle of which were your own letters to Uncle also yours addressed to Charlotte Sqr which was forwarded me here with the newspaper affords us all infinite delight and pleasure to peruse. Uncle sent it to a cousin in Tyree. I regret exceedingly leaving this happy peaceful abode. Here I have felt what it is to have the true and sweet enjoyment of a settled home. Uncle and Aunt have been so kind and wished that I should have remained over winter which I feel grateful for and would have been delighted to have taken advantage of were it not that my studies still require my close application. Here there is no piano so that I have lost three months practise which will make me very much behind but as Uncle says what is very true, I shall never become accomplished player having begun so late but at all events I will try to do as much as will amuse my brothers. Here we occasionally see very good society but in the parish and these neighbourhood are few except busy money making farmers who of course are unacquainted to Uncle in the way of associates so that he is very much thrown upon his own resources for amusement. Lucy Archincaple is coming to spend the winter months with them. I believe she is a lively companionable girl. Uncle has now got over all his visits. The last of which was to the Marquis of Breadalbane who is always very glad to see him and teases him so much about not getting a wife. He brought home with him a large haunch of deer venison the Marquis shooting. I copied one of my essays to enclose but as Uncle intends adding to this I will defer till next mail. With love to all my brothers and dear little Douglas Your very affectionate Annabella
