Auckland May 28/70 My dear McLean, I have sent you all the letters (private and other) that have come to hand since you left. There is nothing new. Ohinemuri hangs as it was. You will get from Heales and Puckey's letters the official view of the proceedings. I have a note from Mackay, explaining operations and stating that the giving over the land to Moananui meant opening it for gold mining, that that course would have saved Te Hira's pride and was what he, Te Hira, desired in order to get out of the difficulty; and Mackay thinks that it was a mistake on the part of the Gov. Agents not to have accepted that view. I am yours very truly, Daniel Pollen
