New Plymouth 8th May 1861 My dear Sir, I have just come up from Waitara and finding Mr. Parris has gone to Kaihihi I write these few lines to say that, yesterday I saw some natives from Mataitawa, who told me that letters had been received from W. King, who is at the Kihikihi, inland of Kawhia, in which he says he is waiting for the Runanga of the Waikato chiefs, the result of which he will communicate to them, in the mean time he leaves his affairs in the hands of Ihaia (an old man at Mataitawa). If any movement be made against the Taranaki he wishes to be made acquainted with it at once. Hapurona told me yesterday he had received letters from Waikato but told nothing more than they were very good ones. The natives from Mataitawa say that Wm. Thompson (in the Waikato letters) says, he is determined not to give up the King Movement. Tamati Teito and Wi Patene start today or tomorrow for Ngatimanui, I expect for some mischief, although they say it is only a ''toro'' I dont know when Mr. Parris is coming back from Taranaki, I did not know anything about his going till I came to town any movements I may hear of north or south I will write and let you know. We had some awful weather here last week. Torrents of rain, and gales of wind, the rivers were higher than I have seen them before, but at present, we have a sort of second summer again. I remain, Dear Sir, Yours very truly, W. Carrington
