New Plymouth November 30th. 1869 Dear Sir, The ''Ahuriri'' has some in unexpectedly; and having been engaged for several days with the Southern natives about their agreements with the Flax Co., and the contract for the road work (which I am glad to be able to inform you is at last settled), I am prepared for a Mail for this month. I seem swerved in getting out an Official, which I was most anxious to send you, in reference to intelligence which I have received about Rewi, which I considered to be of too much importnace to neglect reporting at once to you. Percy Smith leaves to-morrow to commence the road work at Umeroa. The natives left yesterday, taking with them, hooks, axes, etc., for opening the line first with; and as soon as I can get up spades and wheelbarrows, they will commence carthwork. You should send an Official notification to the proposed Members for the Native Board, of their appointment. Stapp has just been to see me, to say that Good has written to tell him that some of the Ngatitamas returned from Chatham Islands, are going to occupy some land in advance of the Constabulary at Waiiti. This I consider very objectionable at present for many reasons; and have taken upon myself to tell Stapp not to allow it, pending instructions from you in reference thereto. I am going to write to him. I will write to you fully by next mail by the ''Phoebe'', expected about Sunday. Excuse this hurriedly written letter against time. Yours very truly (Signed) R. Parris. P.S. The Waikato survey is nearly finished. (Signed) R.P.
