Napier Aug. 25, 1870 Dear Sir, Having written to you so lately there is very little to tell you. I hope you were not annoyed at my sending Mr. Colenso's telegram in regard of the dissatisfaction of the natives in reference to the non-appearance of Mr. Rogan - he particularly desired it as he stated as a reason it would strengthen your hands on the present question of the Native Land Court. The prospectus of the proposed new paper - ''Daily Telegraph'' a copy of which I enclose - will I believe come into existence but whether it will be a success, it is hard to say - The provisional directors you will perceive contains a goodly number of your old supporters and although apparently starting on an independent promulgater of public opinion, will I doubt not either emerge into a stormy supporter of the present Ministry or a rank opponent - the present Directors areonly ''provisional'' and will have to be elected from the body of subscribers - but as far as I can ascertain they (the subscribers) are of a description to warrant my stating it will be a Govt. organ. Mr. Woodful rather put about. Mr. Ormond will show you his Editorial on the question - it would have been better if he had been more circumspect in his remarks for it has made him several enemies - some of the present directors are awfuly annoyed about it. Having written fully to Mr. Ormond on all matters in which you would be interested and as no doubt he will inform you of any thing which he would think you might be interested in it would be only an unnecessary repetition if I were to repeat them in my letter to you. With a sincere wish that you may be able to carry out your progressive policy Believe me to be Dear Sir, Your most obt. St. Geo. Thos. Fannin
