The Cashmere having discharged over £2000 worth of goods, and shipped flour and oats, sailed for Wellington. 8 Posted report, official letter from Auckland, Gazettes, English, Newspapers and letter to you, by this day's overland mail to Wellington. Died, Mr. Veale, in his 65th. year. Mr. Gilbert delivered a lecture on poetry in Mr. Grubes Chapel. 9 The "Shepherdess" from Waingaroa with wheat, maize and timber. Same sailed for Kawhia. 11 The funeral of the late Mr. Veale took place and was numerously attended. Overland Mail from Auckland. 13 General muster and drill. Overland Mail from Wellington. Delivered Census Returns, collected by Policemen and Gaoler, to the Resident Magistrate. Died, of Typhus fever, Mr. John Williams, passenger by the Cashmere. 14 Sunday parade. Police on duty in Town during Divine Service. 15 By direction of Resident Magistrate, the police assisted at the funeral of the late Mr. John Williams. Died, after a short illness, Jesse Jury in his 53rd. year. 16 By order of Resident Magistrate the Police removed a furse bank which for several years past blocked up Leach Street leading into Liardet Street. 18 Court Day. W. Scott (W. Black agent) v. T. Lethbridge - debt, judgment for plaintiff. Rawiri Waiaua came to Barracks and complained of not being paid in full for wheat delivered to S. Oliver - arranged. 20 Between 5 and 6 this morning Mr. Buckland, tailor, was found in the stream near Mr. Gillingham's mill - he had received an injury over the left eye and was suffering from an attack of delirium tremens - he was attended by Dr. Humphries and afterwards removed to his own house. General muster - Wiremu Kingi, Matui, his brother, Katatori, Tahana, Honi Ropiha, Te Ngahuru and many other natives in Town making preparations for Christmas.
