New Plymouth, Sept. 29, 1857. Sir, Your favour of the 14 inst. I have duly received and in reply permit me to state that I will do my best in the matter of a testimonial to Col. Wynard for although money is very scarce I think the settlers are indebted to the Col. for sending us the troops. I am progressing favourably with the claimants to the block of land offered by Katatore, and expect in the course of a week to commence cutting the Eastern boundary, when I will keep you well informed of the progress I make. The case of Puremu, mentioned hurriedly in my last between Pita Hongihongi of the Taniwa and Ihaia's wife, has very much disturbed the Ikamoana people and I fear it will be some time before the question is finally settled, for although payment has been made in the shape of some of Pita's personal property, Ihaia demands some land, which Pita and his friends are not disposed to surrender pending which Ihaia threatens violence. I will do my best to restore peace. Please give my best respects to Mr. Rogan --- I have not time to write to him. I hope Sir you will get me an allowance for an office for at present I am very badly provided with accommodation, Your most obedt. servt., Robert Parris
