Colonial Secretary's Office Auckland 28th. June 1849. Sir, With reference to your letter of the 7th. Oct. 1848, on the subject of the accounts incurred by you while on a special mission in June 1846, in company with Mr. Symonds, for the purpose of settling the Wanganui Land Question, I am instructed to inform you that the documents having been referred to Mr. Symonds for his report, he states that the only item which clashes with the account rendered by him to the Superintendent of the Southern District is one pound for conveyance of baggage from Kai Iwi to Wanganui, which His Excellency has directed should be surcharged against you; and I have to acquaint you that you will pay that amount to the Sub-Treasurer at New Plymouth, who has been instructed to receive it.
