Napier 24th. June 1872. Dear Sir, I was favoured to receive, through the Very Rev. Father Forest, the kind communication of your Honour, recommending us to write a letter to Mr. M. Churton of Wanganui, with reference to his kind proposals to assist or endow some native schools; and I feel exceedingly grateful for your letter and the favour which you honour us. pointing out our school St. Joseph's Providence to his peculiar attention and liberality. On my return from Wellington, where I attended at the funeral of our dear Bishop, Dr. Viare, I made haste on your recommendation, to answer the letter. So kind of Mr. Churton, giving full answer to all his queries, and informing him of our plan of building an addition to St. Joseph's Providence, and of building also the same kind of establishment for the boys of the native race in Meanee. I have the timber already on the spot for the above undertakings. I have the honour to be Dear Sir, with deep respect and entire obdnce. Your grateful and humble servant (Signed) E. Reignier. To:- The Hon. D. McLean, Native Minister Wellington.
