Letter from Donald McLean, to the Honble, the Colonial Secretary, dated 1st. June 1850. relating to payment of the Second Instalment of Rangitikei purchase. Wellington, June 1st. 1850. Sir, I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of yesterday's date, in reference to the difficulty that has arisen in supplying the amount of the Second Instalment for the Rangitikei purchase; and instructing me that in the meantime, I am to adjust the question of the inland boundary of the purchase, and acquaint the natives that arrangements will be made for paying the second instalment as soon as practicable. In reply I beg that you will inform His Excellency that I consider it would be highly imprudent for me to return to the Rangitikei till I am furnished with the necessary funds for paying the natives; which will, I trust, be forthcoming with as little delay as possible. I have the honor to remain, Sir, Your most obedient servant, (Signed) Donald McLean. Land Commissioner. To:- The Honble. The Colonial Secretary.
