Aug. 15th 1866 Napier My dear McLean, Mr. Boyers has just returned from Mohaka without any specimens of petroleum - He says the recent rains have (in some way I do not pretend to understand) risen the oil up in the crevisses of the rock and he could not get at it - but he is still full of and says there are two springs at Mohaka one at Moangiangi and one at the back of the same, also from Waikari to Mohaka the sea beach shews numerous indications of oil and likewise the country behind - This is a summary of his report as just heard and I am afraid not very valuable - I have told him that Kennedy has a letter for him and he has gone down there and will most probably go to Turanga in the Sturt this day. Our weather is fine warm North East first rate in every respect. Yours truly Joseph Rhodes
