The heat here is excessive. It cannot be less so in Napier. Cannot hear a word for yr movements except by the Herald which is meagre enough. Wood is fast on the decline. It is insolent to publish all these letters - what double dealing in unexpected quarters. It is all well - only shews the country's more lucidely the many attempts at thwarting yr plans and still greater implicates the powers that be. When will it all cease and the country be no farther lacerated by these diabolical political intrigues. To work with such men is truly but a game at cross purposes. May you be guided. There are traitors, many at such times. It is hard to know of whom to make a confidante. The Gov. clique are bitter but they forget that the just are even bolder & that integrity and worth will triumph in defiance of all opposition. All hands here are busy.
