New Plymouth March 29th, 1851. Sir, I beg to forward the Police Report for the fortnight ending this day:- Sunday Parade at ten o'clock. I posted a letter to you by the Overland Mail of this day, to Wellington. Hakopa returned from Moutoiti. Court Day. Henere te Ware v. Patara; case - appropriating, and wearing a pilot coat. The Resident Magistrate was assisted by Honi Ropiha and Te Tahana; decision for plaintiff; damages £1. General muster and drill. Absent - Medland. I received a Summons against Captain Campbell, and served a copy personally. Overland Mail from Auckland. Sunday Parade. Hakopa left for the Hua, and returned in the evening. The "Governor Grey", Watt, 1 day from Whanganui; passengers - Mr. and Miss Stannard; in ballast. The "Ship Hotel", and "Seven Stars", public house, changed landlords. I warned the Police to be on the alert, owing to a large assemblage at the above mentioned public houses. Overland Mail left for Auckland. 7 p.m. Private Medland absent from his duty, and at 8 p.m. found intoxicated. The "Governor Grey", sailed for Whanganui; passengers - Captain, Mrs. Campbell, and family; cargo - 12 tons flour. I reported Medland to Captain King, for repeated drunkenness and neglect of duty. Police paid by the Sub-Treasurer, from the 1st. January to the 25th. March, inclusively. Te Ngahuru declined to receive his Quarter's pay, until he hears further particulars from you, in reference to his position. The same brought another complaint before Captain King aganist Mr. Cutfield, for damage done by his cattle to native cultivations, out of the Tataraimaka Block. The "Lucy James", Joyce, from Kawhia; cargo - 789 bushels wheat. I left town for Omata this morning, and returned in the evening. Private Stewart returned from Wellington. He was sent on there by Mr. Hamilton of Whanganui. General Muster and drill. The "Lucy James= sailed for Wellington; passengers, Mr. Richardson; cargo - several tons flour.
