Wairarapa, Manaia, March 6th. 1852. Sir, Being detained here for a day or two by the rivers being flooded I write to inform you that I have been to Kaikokirikiri, and have delivered your letters to the Native Chiefs; we are to start as soon as possible for Whareama - I find that the Natives want very high wages here abouts; I have to request you will be good enough to forward me by the first opportunity two field books with pencils, and some foolscap paper. Mr. W. Hunter will shortly leave Wellington for Castle Point. In case you should not have received my letters from the Hutt, I beg to acknowledge the receipt of Ten pounds £10-0-0 sterling for laborers on the survey, also letters for Curling and others at Ahuriri. I have the honor to be, Sir, Your most obedient servant, C.H. Louis Pelichet. D. McLean. Esqr, Land commissioner
