But I think we had better not have any addition to the party as there will be difficulty about horses etc. If you go round the coast Hood will be a companion for you, and I only regret for your sake that you have not Hood also - the best of the two. I should like to have Major Mair (if possible,) to go with me from Taupo to Tauranga. Could you telegraph to him to hold himself in readiness, and we can let him know the exact day from Napier.
