True copy. G. Brown. Confidential. Hy. T. Clarke. Alexandra, Novr. 30, 1870. My dear Friend, I beg to state that your two last letters and newspapers came to hand all right. With many thanks for your favor. Of course you have heard of this sad affair of the death of Mr.Todd. I rode down last night, I had a letter from Mr. Hill requesting me to come down, but it being a wet day I did not start till late. I cannot form any opinion in regard to this affair, we never heard a breath about it up our way - but I think we shall hear more on the subject soon. (A Native from Te Kuiti informed me that H. E. the Governor and the Honbl. the Nat. Minister had been invited by the King Natives to a Meeting at Te Kuiti. I therefore asked Mr. Hetit if he had heard anything about it. Geo.Brown). In regard to your remarks about the invitation for the visit to these parts of the Governor and others. We know nothing about it at present. I saw Manga on Sunday last and put the question to him but he stated "Take no notice of it". Kirikumara only made a short stay in these parts, he has returned some time. I believe he was only one or two nights at Te Kuiti. Tawhiao was absent at the time - I did not see any of the party. I think we shall have some change before long. There seem to be some secret doings amongst the Natives generally which I do not like to see, but I think it will soon shew itself. My kind regards to Teni and I trust you all are well etc. We are all well, rather troubled with bad colds at present, but otherwise are well. I think I shall have some news for you next week. Pardon this short scrall the mail is just closeing with my kind regards to yourself, In haste, I remain, etc. Louis Hetet.
