Otaki June 15, 1858 My Dear Sir, I have seen the piece of land which Dr. Hewson here alludes to, He holds two native documents for it, and appears to me to have given far more than it is worth. As however he is highly esteemed here by the natives, and wishes to make this his permanent abode I have recommended him to apply for a crown grant before he expends any more money upon the place, and it appears to me desirable that the Govt. should entertain his claim favorably under the peculiar circumstances he is placed here, probably you might authorise Mr. Serank to report upon the case when he next visits this place. I am, my Dear Sir, Yours very faithfully, Richard Taylor D. Maclean Esqre.
