Letter from P. Wilson dated 11th. December 1848 New Plymouth 11th. December 1848 My dear Mc, I write this merely to let you know we are all in the land of the living, and comfortable therein. Wicksteed and myself are meditating a visit to Wanganui, should next post bring us any intelligence of the land being to be selected at Wanganui; for if at Rangitikei or Manawatu, I shall not trouble myself with looking after it. I rode the little mare out to Omata a few days ago. She is a very pleasant little beasty. Miss Charlotte has taken Peter Elliot's horse, so all is right so far. On the day I was at Omata, I had a thorough exploration of my upper and boundary Block, and must say it is altogether splendid, - throwing Glenfine in the lower paradise quite in the shade. We found, running through it, a finer stream than the Wairekenui, so that I have now full command of two of the finest waters in the Omata. Local news, none, - no deaths or marriages; but births, an usual or daily occurrence. Mat Reed's wife has got a daughter; and Mat is proud as Punch thereat. I am looking out for a 118.2.55 for 196.2.10, but that of 114.3.2 will not be 67.3.16 as he 214.4.11's no less than 153.1.26 - 62.1.42, and uncertain whether he will 152.2.57 or not. William was 170.2.18ing 194.3.45 - 158.2.9's, but that, I conceive, is too far out of the 123.3.29, and he would 214.4.11 a 131.3.1. Let me hear from you shortly. I send this enclosed to Campbell, as he is likely to know your whereabouts. Mrs. W. and Pat, who is undergoing a dose of henna tea, desire their kindest regards - and believe me, my dear Mac, ever faithfully yours (Signed) P. Wilson. P.S. Should you see Mr. Grinstone at Wellington, please ask if he received my paper on the Cockpit. To:- Donald McLean Esq.
