Hamilton April 3, 1871 My dear Mr. McLean - On Thursday Evening about 8/30 "our own correspondent" Reynolds came over here from Alexandra and said Whitiora wanted to see me, I asked him what he wanted, but he replied he did not know - I demurred about going at all, but thinking perhaps it might be of some importance I consented accompanied by Edwards I went to Kopiha next day and saw Whitiora, I might have saved myself the going as he had nothing to say. I enclose a letter of his, as I told him he had better put in whiting what he wanted, as I had no power to act, but would forward everything to the Government. Reynolds has had nothing to report about lately, so I fancy he got this up for the purpose of keeping his hand in -what pay is Edwards to have whilst doing and duty here? The road parties work well and even is satisfied with the performances. Your visit to the Thames appears to have been very satisfactory. Believe me Sincerely yours William C.Lyon
