Waipa Septr. 7th /61 My dear Sir On my return home I found that there were a few reports in circulation and such I remit to yourself to judge if it is worth taking notice of - I would advise you to be careful in future if your duties should lead you near the tribe of the Nga ti Raukawa on your last visit to Tamihana it was the intention of the Ngati Raukawa to take away your life in revenge for the death of their chief who fell at Kai rau, the Uata but the proposal did not meet with the sanction of Tamihana and the Ngati Haua - also messengers came here from Whanganui with letters to Waikato their proposal is this to make a rush on Auckland if all the tribes would consent if not they themselves would start a movement on the Town of Whanganui the reason they give is this the troops have occupyd some portion of land at Whanganui which they consider a movement of aggression, they have received an answer but the messengers have not returned yet, I hear also that much the same proposal has come from Taranaki. The Rangitake and Rewe have returned from Taupo this last week the report is they have mustered ten casks of Powder from different parties at the south also that the Ngatikahungunu are expected here in great force very shortly I cannot tell the object of their visit but there appears to be a general movement seems to take place soon amongst them all for some purpose - These few reports are not worth taking notice of the principal cause is I suppose the excitement of the times but I thought that at the same time that it would do no harm to let you know what is going on amongst us mohoa's. We are all quite well in this part all the natives are quite active at their plantations which is rather extensive this season I observed a much milder tone in lower Waikato than usual but up here they are has defiant as ever but we must impute it to their ignorance. I trust that you will excuse me for this trouble that I give you on such trifling matters. I am, Sir Yours Respectfully Lewis Hetet To Donald McLean Esqr.
