Memo. from G. Eyre. to Mr. Domett, Mr. McLean to stop all negotiations on behalf of New Zealand Company, dated 3rd. July 1850. Mr. Domett, Let Mr. McLean be informed that the Agent of the New Zealand Company has requested that his negotiations on behalf of the New Zealand Company, for the acquisition of land, and all expenses connected therewith, should cease; and that therefore from the receipt of your letter Mr. McLean's employment as a Special Commissioner for purchasing lands, etc., for the New Zealand Company, will terminate; and his allowance of one guinea per diem, when employed in that capacity, cease. At the same time, desire Mr. McLean to report to me on the present state of the Wairarapa and Manawatu questions; and the probability of his being shortly successful in negotiating those purchases, supposing that the Government should determine to reemploy him, on account of the Crown. I will then, after the receipt of his report, and after consulting with my Executive Council, decide what further steps ought, under the circumstances, to be taken. (Signed) G. Eyre. 3rd. July 1850.
