Ngaruawahia, 29th. June 1870. Sir, The most important news has now arrived from Raglan that the Natives of Kawhia purpose making an attack at once on Raglan. The leading chiefs of Raglan and Aotea have called a meeting for Friday the 1st. of July, at which I shall be present if it is possible to get over the mountain (which is now almost impassible). The Kupapai propose to concentrate in Raglan at once and evidently fear an attack from the Hauhaus immediately. I will telegraph further news to you as soon as is possible. I have only this evening received a most friendly letter from Tomati Manuhiri and another from Louis Hellet, but neither of them say a word of anything to take place at Raglan. I fear that there may be some truth in the rumour arising from jealousy between the Kawhia and the inland Natives. I am Sir, Your obedient Servant, William N. Searancke. R.M. Dr. Pollen, Asst. G. Govt.
