Rangitikei 5 August 1869 My dear Sir, We have had now a large meeting of the Ngatiraukawas and Ngatiapa's and the latter have agreed that the former shall give as a free gift to the Church 1000 Acresand vice versa that the latter shall give also 1000 Acres to the Church the former give to Mr. Hatfield and the latter to Mr. Taylor. I believe that the arrangement is satisfactory to both parties, leaving no door open for their jealousies I believe on your return this way which the Natives are now anxiously looking forward to that the Ngatiapas will again propose to sell the whole of the Land between Rangitikei and Manawatu (Ihakaru's piece excepted) and I also believe that with a little management with the Ngatiraukawas, some arrangement may be come to, there is great excitement now existing in the district about the land, and the sooner the question is settled the better. I have just heard that there is some disturbance among the Maoris in the Wairarapa, and shall on Wednesday if the report is confirmed immediately proceeded there and write you from there; yours very sincerely, Will N. Searancke D. McLean Esqre, Wellington or elsewhere
