Clyde January 11th. 1869. 8 p.m. Dear Sir, I have the honor to report, for your information, that the messenger (Mr. Golet), dispatched by me to Takuranga, has just returned to Clyde, accompanied by Hereriaia te Wakatiki; and states that the reports brought in by Waata Taiarca and others, are entirely destitute of foundation; that there is no evidence whatever of any recent descent of Hau Haus upon Manatawhiorangi, and that he found his own premises at Paturanui Waiau, unmolested. Fires were seem by them in the neighbourhood of Whataroa; but the six horses, alleged by Waata, to have been shot, were seen by Mr. Gorlet, in perfect safety. I beg to refer you to my former letters for my views as to the advisability of any movement being made from this district. I beg to suggest that Mr. Gorlet would make a valuable addition to Capt. Withers' Corps af Observation. I have the honor to remain, dear Sir, Your obedient servant, (Signed) Geo. Worgan. To:- His Honor D. McLean Esq. Napier
