Memo, from Donald McLean dated 27th. April 1857. Mr. G. Grahame states that in 1844, about a month after Captain Fitz Roy's arrival, he agreed to purchase from Jabez Bunting, a piece of land at Waiuku, at a place named "Otitehe"; for which he paid, at different periods in the New Year 1844, - a bull calf, 5 sheep, one entire horse in 1845, and 6 cows; besides two saddles and bridles, - in purchasing land from the Natives at Waiuku. This case must not be overlooked. Mr. E. Meurant made the arrangement; went round the boundaries with Jabez, and other Natives in 1845. The Deed is lost, but the transaction can be supported by good native testimony. Mr. White was informed by the Natives that they would not dispose of the land to the Government, as it belonged to Mr. Grahame. (Signed) Donald McLean. 27th. April 1857.
