Raglan 28th. April 1860. Gentlemen, In consequence of the extreme insecurity in which you are placed owing to the present excited state of the Natives, I have by direction of His Excellency the Governor instructed Mr. Brewer the Sub Collector of Customs at Kawhia to Charter on behalf of the Government the two vessels in that Port to convey yourselves and families to Manukau. It is evident that your residence at Kawhia will be rendered much more critical when the Natives of that place now on their way to join William King, sustain any loss in fighting against Her Majesty's Forces at Taranaki.
