New Plymouth February 3, 1855 My dear Sir, Our native affairs are likely to take another turn, in the event of the Ngatiruanui's paying us a second visit, as it is currently reported that Pukunui as well as the resident natives from Mahoetahi to Moturoa will assist Ihaia in his defence against them, preparations for which are now in progress --- I shall know more of this business by the return mail which is carried by one of the native police and will inform you accordingly --- Our Superintendent wishes me to enclose the copy of a letter received by him from Southern Natives as well as his reply, for your information. , one of the women wounded at the Mamaku, died on the 31st ultimo. is said to be in a dying state and was this morning reported by two doctors to be sinking fast --- How the wounded on the other side fare we do not know but it is very probable that 2 or 3 of the worst cases are disposed of --- Bad verbal news have been brought here from Wellington about the earthquakes, which make us anxious for further information upon that subject.
