New Plymouth 27th. September 1850. Sir, I beg to forward, in continuance, the Report for the fortnight, ending this day:- Sunday Parade at ten o'clock. The "Shepherdess", having discharged, sailed for Kawhia; cargo, native trade. I reported William Cowling's case to Captain King. Posted letter with enclosures, to you, by this day's overland mail to Wellington. A native, named Karimana, of Waiwakaiho, called about an axe, landed yesterday evening from the "Shepherdess", and since stolen. There is no mark, by which it can be identified. Mr. Bulkley's servant, George Sabin, found drunk and locked up by his master's orders. W. Cowling's dispute with a party of Puketapu natives, arranged by the police. George Sabin fined 5/- with costs, for drunkeness. Major Bulkley and Fergusson left for Mokau overland with a native guide, named Tewa. "Katherine Johnstone" sailed for Nelson. Passenger - Mr. John Hursthouse; cargo - 4 cases slops, 4 kegs nails, 2 bags nails, 2 tons potatoes, 100 bushels maize and original cargo. A native, named Inaina. called about 7 pigs, alleged to have been given by him to Mr. Wellington Carrington, 8 years since. Raniera, of Waitara, called this evening, about which he declared was finished as agreed, between him and Mr. Groube. On enquiry, his statement proved to be incorrect. Mr. Eetre arrived overland from Wellington, on a visit to Mr. Halse. Court Day. No case. Overland Mail from Wellington. General muster and drill. Sunday Parade. Medland resumed his duties after an absence of 44 days. By Captain King's direction, Hakopa left for Marea, to obtain the signatures of Paora Hukutae and Kawana Hiangarere, to a receipt for goods given to them by you, at several meetings about the sale of land at Marea. Force in town, engaged cleaning arms. The "Fisherman", Morrison, from Nelson and Porirua; passenger, Mr. Rhodes; cargo - sundries. Government passenger boat went to Tataraimaka for Captain King; and owing to bad weather, was left there, the crew returning to town. I went to William Fanning at Omata, on the subject of an alleged agreement between him and Mr. Caines of Wanganui. W. Fanning denies having entered into that or any other agreement, and that Mr. Caines has any claim on him whatever. The "Fisherman" went to sea; wind, N. East. Hakopa returned from Warea. Paora kept one of the receipts, in order to shew it to some absent natives. The "Fisherman" returned. The boat's crew left for Tataraimaka. The "Governor Grey" arrived. No communication owing to the absence of the boat and boat's crew; as well as the inability to get a crew for one of the cargo boats, in consequence of a strong breeze from S. East. Interpreter's Salary Abstracts from 1st. July to 30th. Sept. inc. Abstracts and Acquittances Abstracts from 27th. June to Sept. The Police received pay from 27th. June the Sub-Treasurer. Messrs. Bulkley and Fergusson returned from Mokau. The Government boat returned from Tataraimaka, Captain Campbell, Mrs. Weston and son, Mrs. Buckland, landed from the "Governor Grey", 2 days from Wanganui. Mr. Weston called, and handed me a letter from you. I posted an answer to you. I received through Captain King, particulars of a robbery committed by a man at Wanganui, named Stephen Etwell. He is known here, and supposed to be slightly insane. General muster and drill. I posted a letter to Mr. Caines of Wanganui, and returned copy of Agreement. Overland Mail from Auckland. The "Governor Grey" sailed for Wanganui; cargo - 14 tons flour; passenger, Mrs. Boultrop. The "Fisherman" sailed for Porirua; original cargo.
