6 May 1864 Glenorchy My dear Donald I am happy to say that Kate is much better and able to work now. Mr Easdail has arrived with the sheep in very good order. 704 wedders and 23 rams which we nose branded yesterday. Him & Watt goes down today to see you. Watt might take some grass seed back with him if you have nothing ealse to send. I expect you up before this. I hope you are quite well. I have had very queer dreams about you lately but they are all good I think. I know you have a great deal to think of at preasant. John is getting on remarkable well with the accomodation house. I am getting the houses their painted and the kitchen white washed & he has realised at the rate of 20/ per week since he comenced but you know it keep equal to that amount away from the place. I was going down with Nelson to see and get settled with some of the money he owes but as I hear Alexr is going down with old Archy I will not go till next week. You must take care how you settle with that old fellow. I made out Malcolm a/c up to the 10 of May and I send you a rough copy of the one I gave Alexr. I have been told by John that Malcolm told him that when Alexr made the bargain with old Archy he keep Alexr in a state of drink that he did not know what he was doing. Malcolm also told John that he, old Archy, came to him Malcolm asking him what he should take etc so that I wish you to arrange with him before Malcom leaves that was my reason of making Malcom his a/c out to the 10th inst, as he will it appears be able to clear the matter up. If the fellow will not take his wages as offered him by you I need not mention any more. I hope you will let Easdail bring me Prince and the bridle as I want him badly to harrow in grass. The weather is dreadful but I hope we will soon have rain otherwise we will have a bad winter. The sheep are lambing and have made a very good share of lambs already. Kratiana [Karaitiana] was up here a night and was very friendly. He is going to keep his bargain with the potatoes which I will gave to John as they have none there. Hoping to see you soon. Always your attached brother Archibald John McLean Donald McLean Esq Napier Frd by Mr Easdail
