G. B. Jany 10th. 1874. My dear Mr. McLean, I send you by orderly such letters and papers as have reached me since last opportunity. I have kept track and locked away in my draw a parcel which looks like a Bank Pass Book. Shall I still keep it? Your Muhunoa telegrams have been a puzzle to us - and it was not till I got your todays message that we found out what you wanted. I send Searanckes report from which it would appear that nothing up to that time May 1860 had been paid on it - then there is an extract from another report dated Jany 6 - 1871. - or ought it to be 1861 - which further states that nothing more had been done. This last report is subsequent to Kohimarama meeting. I will have further search made on Monday for any other information. But what between Provincial Office - Crown Lands office and Heaphys office - it almost requires the sagacity of a detective to find out information. I am getting native letters answered as quickly as I can many of them on my own responsibility. Faithfully yours, Hy. T. Clarke.
