Napier Augt. 3/1868. Sir, I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 25th. July recd. at 8½ oclock this evg. mail closing in half an hour. Prior to your Honors instructions I had for my self defence to the reports at times received by Your Honor got kept not by myself as it might be open to question but by the Messenger a return of my attendance at office and on referring to it find I have been one day and a part of another absent from office -- the one day was in accordance with Dr. Hitchings advice and the half day was in moving into Town. Your Honor may recollect that you had given me permission for a couple of days to move. Such not being required I did not take them. In reply to the latter part of Your Honors letter I have already given you all the information of consequence both of letters and Telegrams without egotism I can assure Your Honor that no one can do more than I do in giving Your Honor all the information in my power as soon as possible. Pray excuse this hurriedly written letter to be in time for mail. I have the hr. to be Sir Your most obt. svt. Geo. Thos. Fannin.
