Letter from P. Wilson to Donald McLean Esq. dated 27th. April 1857. New Plymouth 27th. April 1857 My dear Mac, I write these few lines hastily to catch the post; having just seen as I came into town now, the death of a friend or relation of yours - Mr. Lumsden, of Glasgow, in the "Glasgow Chronicle", of the 11th. December; and a highly flattering account of the old gentelman, it is. We have no news of importance, and we are going on quietly in all ways. The Duke remained with us five, six, or seven weeks; and never had a touch of lumbago the whole time. Louisa and he started together, but she got a capsize and ducking in one of those nice mud pools at Kumeroa, and was obliged to return, and is still with us. We are rejoiced to see there is a probability of your coming down this way. My wife had a raking fit last week, and was out late and early. The consequence is she is doing pennance for her pains, and is taking physic, which is a good punishment for all dietary transgressions. Believe me ever, etc. (Signed) P. Wilson To:- Donald McLean Esq.
